Depends where the tumour is, "gastrointestinal tract" is not very specific. If colon, endoscopy and biopsy would be the gold standard. If colonoscopy is not possible for whatever reason, you could try CT guided biopsy. Small bowel; if not within reach of ileoscopy via colonoscopy, CT enterography would be helpful, as would capsule endoscopy. In facilities which have the necessary resources, intubation of the entire small intestine can be performed as a dual procedure from above [upper GI] and below.
