I have experiment about antioxidant and antibacterial activity . I have extraction essential oil and extraction ethanol from same plant, so i want know which better, the extract or essential oil of the same plant ? Why?
it is related to kind of material. if your antibiotic components can extract from biomass via essence, essence will be better, but if this components can gathered via extract , this method is better. thus for each aim we have to determine especial protocol.
Try both, I would say and compare for a nice publication. Ethanolic extract shall have bioactive flavonoids, polyphenols, phenolics etc. while esential oils would have terpenoid-based compounds. For the whole-sale bioactivity of the entire plant you need not miss either of them, but then, if the pant is best known for essential oil and not for dietary reasons (medicinal purposes of plant parts) then the essential oil's activity (antioxidant or bioactivity) would be more informative. best wishes.
This depends on the final purpose of extraction process, in food applications, pharmaceutical applications cosmetic applications or any other purpose. As Mr. Biswapriya said that essential oils contain a high proportion of terpenoid-based compounds, so I think this extract (EO extract) is the better for pharmaceutical applications and also in food applications (as antioxidant or antimicrobial activity). Alcoholic extract contains a high proportion of phenolic acids and other polyphenols compounds, so I think it's will be good in food applications.
But this is not the face of absolutely. Some of essential oils have a greater efficiency not only in the pharmaceutical or cosmetic applications, but even in the food applications. For this, you have to try both of them.
