How about NART (National Adult Reading Test). It is relatively easy to apply and non time consuming measure.

I've done a lot of intelligence testing in my career. The best test for my needs has been the Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Cognitive Abilities. This is the only major intelligence test that is actually grounded in theory (based on the Horn-Cattell theory of fluid/crystallized intelligence). It has a number of tests that assess every major cognitive ability, and you have the option of using all of these or utilizing a briefer version that tests only a few. I have never had any problems with reliability on these tests in any sample I've created.

This is an especially good test for seniors (which was my testing population), as it results in good variability in response. When testing seniors, I find it useful to also test independently for visual and auditory acuity, so that you have the option of controlling for those in the analysis.

There are a number of versions of the W-J. I used versions II and III. I actually preferred version II as it had slightly better reliability.

If you are looking for a screener, I suggest the Wechsler Abbreviated Scale of Intelligence (WASI).  It gives an estimated Verbal, Performance, and Full Scale IQ.  If you are assessing adults with advanced impairment, you can get an estimate of premorbid intelligence with the Wechsler Test of Adult Reading (WTAR).  I have used both in my geriatric assessment batteries.

My aim is to assess intelligence (specifically, premorbid intelligence) to add is as a variable to the general neuropsychological assessment and cognitive-plasticity (learning potential) assessment. So I'll check the abbreviated versions you mentioned so I can add it.
