The problem is accuracy and agility in inventory and warehouse opperations. Currently there is an ERP software. Instead of replacing, we've been thinking of improving it or complementing it.
Our goals are making it faster, better and more accurate. It should be highly reliable.
Are there defacto standards in the industry. RF ID is certainly a good solution. Bar codes work well too. I would think the manifest are already coded in some sort of EDI schema. (You have a warehouse with inventory. Stuff comes in and out. You want to track it quickly and accurately. What came in. What went out and to whom. A basic database.) Question is what's the best way to read what comes in and out. Either the inventory is pre-tagged in some manner when it comes in or you have to tag it. How do you know what comes in? Do crates come in whole and go out whole or is the contents broken out and put into inventory? Different solutions.
