I have two factors ( X1 and X2) and a response (Y). I want to find the values for X1 and X2 to obtain maximum Y.
I have done some tests to have a view of response in terms of X1 and X2. I fixed X2 and varied X1 (X1= 5%, 35% and 65%). I observed that Y increases with increasing X1 from 5% to 65%. I cannot increase X1 to values more than 65%.
It seems that the maximum Y happens at boundary. So, CCD design does not work. What methods of experiment design is recommended?
Amin .. DoE applying Simple (2F! )factorial design to optimize the response can handle this problem. I will strongly recommend Design Expert software to create you design matrix to this end. I am very good at it. Otherwise, MatLab can also handle similar case. RSM Box-Benkhen can be used to create your DoE Matrix if the thought of adding other variable and increasing their levels comes mind.

However, exploratory studies should be also based on DOE (https://www.itl.nist.gov/div898/handbook/pri/pri.htm ), otherwise you can get a partial and bias view of your experimental conditions.
