For young researchers to find more relevant literatures and datasets, except for Google Scholar, which database can be trusted. among Web of Science, Scopus and Microsoft academic.
It depends on your needs. If you want to search based on authenticity then WOS better and then Scopus but it uploads only those files which journal are indexed by either WOS master list or Scopus list. If you want to see all document if an author uploaded by himself Google Scholar, Academia and Orcid are good. Microsoft Academic not justify them all.
For example, I was searching about elite professor who won Nobel Prize. In GS show more than 1500 document but same author on Scopus shows around 400 and in WOS shoes only 350.
There are several citation indexing and abstracting databases like Web of Science Core Collections, Scopus, Google Scholar (GS), Microsoft Academic, Crossref, Dimensions, etc. The Web of Science Core Collections and Scopus are the two multidisciplinary subscription-based citation indexes used to rank journals in a particular discipline to measure them in terms of productivity, total citations received so as to indicate the journal impact, influence, or prestige within the subject discipline. Scopus is considered a powerful competitor of Web of Science and is attempting to challenge the dominating role of WoS and as part of that various studies have been conducted to compare these two databases from different perspectives. WoS covers only “high-influence” publications. Scopus and WoS databases are each grounded by certain principles to cover selective important journals in all knowledge fields. Scopus has a comprehensive coverage of journals than of WoS. So they have their own advantages and disadvantages. The selection of the database is determined by the purpose for which the database is selected.
