I am trying to discern whether, in the brain (structure & function) of people with bipolar disorder/MDD/schizophrenia who experienced childhood trauma, there are:
1. already differences in children's brain structure & function that trauma further modifies and the person develops a mental illness OR (genetics first then trauma)
2. trauma changes the structure and function of the brain that the child's genetics further modifies and the person develops a mental illness (trauma first then genetics)
Has anyone researched this & if so, can you please share your findings or references you know of?

Paradise Lost: The Neurobiological and Clinical Consequences of Child Abuse and Neglect. In Neuron; 2) Aas M et al. (2019) Childhood maltreatment and polygenic risk in bipolar disorders. In Bipolar Disorders; and 3) Stevelink et al. (2019) Childhood abuse and white matter integrity in bipolar disorder patients and healthy controls. In European Neuropsychopharmacology.
I am interested in causation and the interplay of genetics and childhood trauma as I am trying to write a book on childhood trauma and how the different types of trauma at different times explains the behaviors of survivors, the mental health challenges caused by childhood trauma and toxic stress, and how people can "overcome" (I hate this word but can't think of another) trauma. My story of childhood trauma, developing several mental illnesses including bipolar disorder, and how I was able to get a PhD and have a successful career while growing and healing is being used as the backdrop to tell the scientific story to a lay audience.
There are genetic vulnerabilities for a certain disorder and trauma may add to the pre-existing, for example, biological imbalance. We also know that females are more inclined to attract PTSD. In the Finnish population there is a genetic disposition to attract e.g., depression. Antidepressive medication is one of the most sold pharmacological products here.
With the mental illness , suffering of patient disturb him in a very abnormal manner for which parents & the member of family gets mentally disturb .
In the care taking of the patient , member should take care in a very natural ,positive & in certain cases very smiling manner . The duty of care taker has to see & observe that the suffering patient should be made little bit in a comfortable manner

Thanks for communicating these extremely interesting publications and the various approaches to your subject, as well as your personal motivation for the project to write a book which should permit understanding by a lay audience. Concerning your hatred for the word "overcome", it might be helpful for you to reduce it by thinking of "We shall overcome", the song that originated in gospel and became a salutogenic instrument in a society that was victim of collective trauma (the Afroamerican community --> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We_Shall_Overcome. You coud discuss the meaning of "overcoming" in conjunction with "coping", another word used to "neutralize" the trauma without attempting to displace it completely from the field of perception.
