In water treatment using chlorine, excess chlorine causes many problems, so how can I remove the active chlorine?
In drinking water treatment, sodium bisulfite is often added after super chlorination, to reduce the residual chlorine.
Talib is correct but I would add that in some countries industrial scale de-chlorination is often done with sulphur dioxide .gas.
I would use sodium thiosulphate. And aeration. With aeration, you also remove a lot without any chemicals. This will work better if the pH is low.
Combine and think about costs of energy or chemicals.
How do you remove chlorine from water, very simply with an activated carbon filter, carbon is extremely effective in removing chlorine taste and order also making your water taste great, carbon is removed a long list of organic and inorganic contaminants and is the best way to remove chlorine from your water. (activated carbon prepared from wood or coconut shells etc) which has enormous surface area, in fact 1 gm of activated carbon has equivalent surface area to a football field. This mass of surface area combine with certain electromagnetic properties makes carbon a highly effective media to adsorb of variety contaminants.
It's the right stuff if you have a chlorine problem and want good tasting water, besides its eco-friendly and inexpensive method.
Otherwise you can do it with black mica or biotite.
Hydrogen peroxide is easy to dose and it doesn't increase the salt content. Especially adding sulfate to water can create problems in municipal water supply and many technical water preparation purposes.
