COVID-19 brings a terrible atmosphere everywhere. Books are trusted friend in good and bad times. Some are fond of novels and some are of holy scriptures. In this era of grilling which book make you contented and joyous ?
Anamitra Roy Great answer dear! You are right. Human mind is a sovereign state which is governed by that particular person. So it simply depends upon how good he/she is to rule that dominion. I asked the question to get some different viewpoints. Physical form of books are very popular one but to me every little story of life echos like a book. My daughter is now 3.....she is like a comic book to me and my son is 6, a book of Rhymes. I'm not against physical form of books. Like you I'm an omnivorous in terms of books but in this age of 42 I still get lost into Humayun Ahmed's magical world like 20's. Thank you.
Meditation and life of people who inspired you. Another follow your religion by reading literature of religion. Another option International acceptable Sri. Mad Bhagwatgita.
Trust me since yesterday, I was thinking of how to answer your question. It is such an interesting question that you have raised.
I studied in a school in Kolkata which at one point of time was the school with the highest number of students in the world. Its name was included in the Guinness Book. I was so proud of my school. But I used to hate going to the school everyday as a kid. Today after so many years of graduating from that school, when I visit my school it brings peace and tranquility to my soul. I was wondering why. The school is the same. Almost everything about the school is the same.
I then realized that my school has nothing to do with my feelings. Its my inner self that decides my feelings. So I am the monarch of my mind. If I can control my mind then everything will bring peace and tranquility to my soul.
Somehow you and me ... we are linked. We may be citizens of two different nations. We may be following two different religions. We may be products of different socio-economic-political-educational backgrounds. Yet, we are same. We are both messengers of the Supreme. So most of the time what is applicable for you, is applicable for me and vice versa. We think too much and make life complicated. Life is simple. Sorry. I am wrong. Life is very simple.
If you can control your mind, any book will make you happy. I have personally read a lot of books by writers of your country. They make me feel happy. They touch my soul. They bring peace and tranquility to my soul. Humayun Ahmed is all time favourite.
If you are too tired, I will suggest you to read a comics. There the pictures are drawn. So you don't have to exercise your mind too much while reading a comics. If you want happiness I will suggest you to read a story or a novel. Just imagine when you are reading a novel, you may get lost in the plot and start imagining yourself as one of the characters in the novel. That will make you happy. Now, if you want, peace and tranquility of your soul, please analyze your requirements. Like, if you are hungry read a book on recipes. You will get what you are looking for.
Life is very simple. We make it complicated. Read any book. Reading a book is like having a conversation with its author. You will surely get what you are looking for.
Please forgive me for such a long answer. I promise you from the next time, I will not give you such long answers.

Great to hear about your son and daughter. I wish them all the best. It is equally great to hear that you still now get lost into Humayun Ahmed's magical words. He was a genius.

For peace and tranquility; my personal opinion and observation the translation of the Holy Book of Al Quran is the right books and I practice regularly. Keep me in your prayer please. Wishes the best.
The first chapter of "Lame Deer" is the story about how he found his "True Name" which is when you discover what your REAL name is--that is the name you find for yourself that will help guide you through life. We are "given" a name by our parents when we are born, just so when they call you for dinner, they are not calling out "Hey, kid!" But that is not your true name--that is what you need to find for yourself, the name that will back up who you really are, during your lifetime.
For example in the book "Lame Deer" a name of a warrior was "Man Afraid of his Horse" which did not mean that HE was afraid of his horse, but that this warrior was so fierce, that when his enemies just saw HIS horse at a distance, they ran away afraid. The "Man and his Symbols" book explores our dreams and what they may teach us. "Teachings of Don Juan" explores the American Indian methods of acquiring knowledge, so that you are able to gain personal strength.
An interesting book so you can see what a possible future might look like, when we start actually tackling Global Warming, is Saci Lloyd's book "Carbon Diaries:2015" Not her sequel "Carbon Diaries: 2017" Probably the most important book written so far, this century!
