The main goal of the DataBio project is to show the benefits of Big Data technologies in the raw material production from agriculture, forestry and fishery/aquaculture for the bioeconomy industry to produce food, energy and biomaterials responsibly and sustainably. DataBio proposes to deploy a state of the art, big data platform on top of the existing partners’ infrastructure and solutions – the Big DATABIO Platform.

In agriculture we demonstrate use of the HYDRA platform to help farmers identify which crop varieties to plant, how to compute the profit margin for the specific crop variety and to extract from documents information about the toxicity of crop specific pesticides to non-target organisms i.e. the farmer’s bees.

To tackle the increasing challenges of agricultural production, the complex agricultural ecosystems need to be better understood. This can happen by means of modern digital technologies that monitor continuously the large quantities of data in an unprecedented pace.
