Which are other machining processes used for machining of Al-SiCp MMC material? Is there any conventional machining processes used before EDM ? Literature review shows papers on optimization of EDM machining of Al-SiCp. So, why Electric discharge machining of Al-SiCp is the best suited or considered for research as compare to other machining processes?
This method is well suited for the development of instrumental teams. It is also one of the most accurate methods of producing a desired shape without heating the material. The aim is to avoid thermal stresses. Al and its alloys are rapidly heated by other machining methods. They change their volume (increases), and the deviations of the desired size are thereafter.Alternative EDM machining can also be used for thread erosion for processing.
Dear Emil Hristov Yankov Sir, Thank you for your reply. Is there any paper or book which shows this as a reference for justification. Which are further conventional machining process except EDM to machine AlSiCp ? Which are limitations of those processes which overcome by EDM ?
1.Conventional machining will give uneven surfaces on the specimen since SiCp is harder compared to Al
2. If the tool force is high, it may reduce the interfacial shear strength of the interface of SiCp & Al thus pull out of reinforcement
3. There will be plenty of surface cracks on the specimen which will make the sample brittle
