I'm studying the expression of some genes involved in drought response. I would like to set up an experiment in durum wheat in which plants will be treated with different concentration of exogenous ABA.
Is it necessary to use the (+)-ABA or I could use the (+/-)ABA for the treatment for this purpose?

We use ProTone® s-abscisic acid (s-ABA) to spray on grapevines (V.vinifera).
The natural plant hormone ABA exist in two forms:ABA(+) cis ABA and(-2)-trans ABA.Both forms are active. you could use synthetic Sigma Trans-ABA at concentrations of 10-4 ,10-5, and 10-6 M/L.,or other concentrations.
Dear Valentina, the naturally occurring form is S-(+)-ABA, with the side chain 2-cis,-4-trans. Trans, trans-ABA is not biologically inactive, while R-(-)-ABA (a possible product of racemization via the catabolite ABA-trans-diol) is active in some assays, as reported by Finkelstein (2013)

I was just wondering which type of ABA product buy for this purpose, because I've seen that there is an huge difference of prices (SIGMA) between the (+)ABA and the (+/-)ABA.
I thought that the (+) form was necessary only for analytical purpose (like an HPLC-MS), but not for a treatment useful to analyse the modulation of the expression of some target genes in presence of ABA.
