The biofertilizer are the micro-organism which utilize the carbon as their nutrient/energy source; if so, then how it helpful for the fodder production because they are short duration one
@ Santosh, definitely for initial build up and development after inoculation they need C and nutrients that they collect from the soil but thereafter they add nutrients through the natural processes of nitrogen fixation, solubilizing phosphorus, and stimulating plant growth through the synthesis of growth-promoting substances. The microorganisms in bio-fertilizers restore the soil's natural nutrient cycle and build soil organic matter. As you have mentioned, for short duration crop there benefit is not much visible but with time they are helping in maintaining soil health and overall crop growth improvement including yields.
Definitely, at initial stage of crop it establishes association with roots and aquire carbon and nutrient from host. After certain time, it provide nutrient to the plant through various mechanism.
@J.C. Tarafdar, @ Uma Nath Shukla -It means it has disadvantage with respect to short duration crop (Only the crop point of view) no doubt it has many advantages in later stages
@ Santosh, it does not mean disadvantages? Actually most of the beneficial microbes takes 2-3 weeks time for initial build up and establishment. I dont think, we have any crop going to harvest within three weeks time. Later on, after establishment the organisms definitely works for the crop provided they get suitable environment.
I completely agree, sometimes it is difficult to have a significant effect on fodder crops but the benefits caused by these biofertilizers on soil fertility certainly help future crops..
