Do you have an anecdote from your experience or about another physicist that you can share? A story about how a physics idea can happen? Are there books or articles that collect such stories?
The apple Newton's falling, as inspiration of the laws of the planets moving around the Sun, were the same as the gravitation in the Earth. It seems that was to thought in his gravitation law.
Perhaps there are more but this is the most known without any kind of doubt.
A falling star (shooting star) motivated me to look up into night sky and developed an attachment to stars and moon; after that I started observing them more carefully. When I came to know that I can apply the laws of Physics to understand the heavenly bodies, it motivated me to go deep in physics. Soon I understood that devoting myself to Physics was the right decision.
I worked on developing a theory (just an analogy concept). I discovered that the same stuff I used to think about a particular topic (a multiverse theory), found next day written in a article. (I had not read the same thing even before.) It had not same words as I thought , but the meaning was same. I became very sad and the one line I remembered that was "How can it possible? " But after some hours, I realised that this was a great thing. The Theory which I had never read before, how did it come in my mind? So from that day I learnt one thing, ideas can comes to anyone's mind & not everytimes you will find the same thing written on books.

Physics is a unique subject of the Nature, for the Nature and by the Nature. Thus, all the inspirational motivations for new physical and philosophical discoveries are hidden in the Nature herself.
