Arrow symbol for a vector .
My question concern the use of an arrow to represent a vector. For a spatial vector, it shows the direction, and this is also the case for the vector representation of a force. Maybe the force was the reason to use an arrow to indicate that there is something at one end.

It was most helpful, thank you. In the last link, there was some discussions, e.g. starting with a 2 dim formulation and generalising into 3 dimensions. ( The first link was empty)
