I am conducting a Literature Review and I often encounter articles saying that among many of the advantages of OS one of them is their "large-area deposition" and I want to understand what does this mean and how large is large, in a quantitavely way. Thanks in advance.
The "large area" in the field of organic electronics is related to the deposition techniques. In contrast with the Silicon-based technology (i.e. all technologies are done on one wafer, e.g. 6" in diameter.), the organic electronics can provide roll-to-roll deposition techniques. As a result, the possible deposition area is almost unlimited and therefore it is denoted as large-area electronics. It should be mentioned here that although the roll-to-roll deposition is related mostly to wet deposition techniques, the other techniques (vacuum evaporation, ALD, etc) are also possible. Hence, the "large -area" is not bout the specific substrate size, but it is about capabilities of deposition techniques.
