I am performing a regeneration assay on Xenopus tadpoles by amputating the tail. I am using non-amputated tadpoles as a control. After performing the amputation, should I keep the amputated cohort separate from the non-amputated cohort? Is there any evidence, in Xenopus or other systems, that the development of the non-amputated cohort is affected by being grown in the same container as the amputated cohort? Eg due to cytokines or ROS being secreted by the amputated animals
