i have a car and i will convert it to an electric car .
using DC Motor Rechargeable Battery package , and Controller ,
car will weight 500 kg at maximum , we need it to move at speed 20 mph (mile per hour)
, and distance are 500 meter , and battery last 30 minute
i want first to know :
how to determine the HP of the dc motor needed to move this car assuming motor is 220 Volt @ 1500 RPM
Then How to Calculate The Required Watt-hour Battery Needed to provide power to this car
The power P required to maintain a car's velocity V in the face of frictional resistance force F is P = FV. In the case of a car, approximately, F = R + (CdDAV^2)/2, where R is rolling friction (which is approximately independent of V), Cd is the car's drag coefficient, D is air density, and A is the car's frontal geometrical cross-sectional area. Thus, approximately, P = RV + (CdDAV^3)/2. But R = CrW, where Cr is the coefficient of rolling friction (which is approximately independent of V) and W = Mg is the car's weight (M is its mass, g is the gravitational acceleration). So P = CrWV + (CdDAV^3)/2 = CrMgV + (CdDAV^3)/2.
you could easily get the information horse power of your gasoline car
then transform it to watts 1hp=746w
i recommend that you use an AC 110V motor "3 phase induction motor" or "DFIG", witch high power according to it 's weight but a complicated controller.
you could use 2 motors or even 1 for every wheel.
For the battery, you must take into consideration the loss of power in the converter and have a good design for the cables section, and remember that the voltage could kill, so that lower is better 110v safer then 220v, but even 110v may cause damage, AC voltage gives you the chance to free yourself at 0V but DC volt will not let you go,
If you use the battery from 100% to 80%, it could have a lifetime of 10 years
If you use the battery from 100% to 50%, it could have a lifetime of 5 years
you should research and learn how to calculate power, work, distance, altitude friction, efficiency.

my old fiat 128 car is 26 hp ... but after removing a lot of weight it will be lighter , i think i need less hp for my electric car !!! ,....
what about using dc brushless motor , as it is available and cheaper than other with the same hp
