I'd like to analyse the cerebral blood flow after LED (light emitting diode) on elderly people whose brains are physically independent. We're going to compare changes in cerebral blood flow before and after LED irradiation (3 times/week, during 4 weeks). What's the best way to quantify these changes?
Arterial Spin Labeling (ASL) using MRI would be useful for this. It will give you an index of CBV and flow characteristics. Transcranial Doppler testing could be used in conjunction with this, as it also indexes rate of arterial blood flow.

Please clarify your question if you could. Your initial question indicated that you were looking for intact vasculature in elderly adults. There are potential issues if you have patients with hypertension or stenosis of the carotids, but those individuals may be contraindicated for participation for your study. If so, then I would use transcranial doppler testing alongside ASL measures.
