I'm looking for a source or document that proves why the apparent stiffness of the joint which should be totally dependent on physical properties and stress states of the material, now has some relation with the smallest mesh size in the normal direction of the adjacent material???
In case of very fine meshing around the joint, this formula will provide a high stiffness which is not correct and affect the behavior.
Please let me know if you have a reasonable explanation with reference.

In fact, this value significantly affects the results. I tried to search for an answer to this question and could not find it. So I hope someone can answer this
To correctly transfer the stress-strain relationships between interfaces, we use hypothetical springs in the shear direction and in the normal direction. In numerical methods, calculations are done in Gridpoints in each zone. We can not place the exact location of the springs in the gridpoints. So we need to find the nearest Gridpoints with a ratio of zone stiffness parameters and mesh dimensions to connect two finite difference mesh. And we know that the calculations are done in the gridpoints and the averaging is done along the zones and the output is shown by counters for us. So in order for the springs to be able to transmit the actual behavior between the two sub-grids and the stiffness of the zones around the interface to be close to each other, the smallest zone must be found to calculate the largest stiffness. Note that this equation is only for connecting two sub-grids and does not model the actual interface behavior.
