Since you did not specify the type of data and the tasks you intend to use these data for, It's impossible to say. There is no... universal way on data pre-processing, be it Nuclear Engineering or not. If you have a set of requirements, than you follow thee requirements. On the other hand, you can treat the data any way you like, as long as you can justify your logic.

Every signal processing you are using is introducing an additional error and so it affects the accuracy of the measurement. It depends by the nature of the original data. Every method is appropriate for the different purposes. The best method to be adopted depends by the type of the original data e by the enquiry. There is not a general rule.
