Educational research sometimes gets a bad press for its ultimate lack of impact upon students' achievement and/or its disconnection from core elements of teaching. So how and where - historically or in more recent times has educational research proved genuinely transformational?
Hello Theo. Thanks for this. I followed your link to the 2016 and a David Boud interesting keynote presentation on 'feedback' to students at different levels of study. This strikes me as a example of educational research (along with other related research linked to assessment for learning or visible learning) which has the POTENTIAL to be transformational.
On the other hand, the awarding of marks, the fact that most school reports are not markedly different in 2020 to how they were in 1920, and the mutual frustrations of students and teachers around feedback truly effecting impact , may present an example of educational research (in his case on assessment practices) struggling to achieve breakthrough in terms of implementation and practice.
Serious Gaming sounds interesting - but has educational research on ICT practices more broadly truly transformed schools uses of technology? The educational research in this area tends to highlight challenges and barriers.

Lots of initiative is on educational research particularly in technology enabled learning. Most of the IITs and NITTRs are doing research and implementation of the findings. There are also initiatives by the social service organizations. The progress is good but still lots to be done. You can check the following link:

Thanks Adrian - I would agree that Bandura's social learning theory which suggests that observation and modeling play a primary role in learning has a claim to being seminal, It would be interesting to hear from colleagues who know of national polities or state jurisdictions which have sought to apply or embed Bandura's findings and theories. I am sympathetic to 'habits of mind' research as well but doesn't this ultimately go back to the Ancient Greek philosophical greats?
