You can write a letter to the editor/publisher retracting the article and then publish it in a reputable journal. It is going to be very hard to do but it is certainly worth a try. The fact is once the article has been published it is already out there and a lot will depend on the agreement that you had with the journal. So look at the journal policies again to see what your rights are and what are the rights of the journal. Some might allow you to publish elsewhere.
If the article has been recently published and you believe that your article worths publication in a good journal, you can retract your published article. Otherwise, leave it and be careful for your future submissions.
I agree with the previous answers. We can retract the published article and seek another reputable journal to publish the paper. In the meantime, it would certainly be disappointing to fin out that our paper is published in a predatory journal.
Dawood, did your article go through that rigorous review before it was published? If so then forget about what they term as predatory. The content of your paper is what matters provided it will help the scientific community out there.
There may be equally bad papers that may be published in first class journals. I believe we should have confidence in our outputs as researchers.
Dawood, honestly, if I were in your position I will quickly withdraw the paper, improve it and submit in a reputable journal. No need to waist your time with these predatory journals they add nothing to your academic record.
I really appreciate all the above insightful contributions shared so far.
It is a case of a friend of mine. His research sounds very scientific and thought that journal is reputable. But, when he applied for promotion he was told that journal is a predatory one. He contacted the editorial board to retract his research but did not succeed due to the policy of that journal.
I think it is a case of the panel deliberately deciding not to promote him. Dawood, did he give you the number of papers they needed for him to be promoted? I believe he has other papers which are not in so called predatory journals as well. Did the panel assess those ones?
He should just relax and keep his calm. There are better days ahead.
A researcher who publishes in a pseudoscientific journal is not necessarily incompetent. A journal can be initially serious and become predatory. In addition, it is often the case that well-established researchers trust this kind of journals, because of their excessive speed or lack of knowledge of the world of predatory publishing. Researchers are the victims of this sector and some high quality papers do not have the visibility due to them because of a publication in a bad journal.
This is the note I added to conclude the preamble of the Dolos list main page (https://www.professeur-alexandre-georges.info/dolos-list).
