We are all aware that water is the most important substance for life. Without it life in the form we know it as would not be possible. We also know that water behaves quite anomalously in many respects; one of which is its expansion when freezing and vice versa, the contraction of ice upon melting. Because of this, ice floats in water and this makes marine life possible. But there must be other serious consequences as well if water and ice would not behave in the way they do. Who can give me a list of such (catastrophic) consequences for us and life on earth in general?
