Please guide me in determining the laser source (specification) needed to for transient photovoltage and photocurrent setup. We have a function generator and oscilloscope. What are other thing required?
Depending upon your transient time scale (If you are aware of the estimated time scales), you have to select the photosensor and the diagnostic tools. If the available oscilloscope and the signal generator are having time and magnitude resolutions bigger than the interaction time and strength of the laser matter interaction, you will see nothing more than a noise floor of your oscilloscope. What are your specs of the available tools and any idea about the time scale at which you will be studying the transients?
I fully agree with Amit Morarka's suggestion. Furthermore, if you measure nanoseconds response of a sample, you need to have at least ps response laser source. A fs response laser is even better, but costly. You have to use fast response detectors such as PMT and wide band of oscilloscope.
