I assume that you are working with dried leaves. Defat by using by either pet.ether or hexane and then proceed to ethanolic extract
If you are doing maceration, collect the extract and completely evaporate the solvent and then add Pet ether or hexane and mix and extract in a suitable glassware to remove the chlorophyll and other pigment contents
To remove chlorophyll and other pigments from leaves extract (preferably aqueous after evaporating solvent if any present in extract ) you should try partition chromatography using HEXANE, PETROLEUM OR CHLOROFORM.
Carbon tetrachloride is the appropriate solvent for removal of chlorophyll from the extract without losing polar secondary metabolites. However, it may take away certain non-polar compounds.
