Many farmers in our state apply zinc in soil as micronutrient injudiciously in every year especially in potato cultivation. Lots of problems arise in potato cultivation which may be due to Zn toxicity.
Some top soils lack zinc and fertilization can be very beneficial for the yield and the nutrient value of the crop. What is your reason to assume that there may be toxicity from the zinc?
Both of you correct, Zn is beneficial for crop. It is required in very little amount by plant. For this reason it is called micro-nutrient . But farmers of our area use this element as fertilizer year after year indiscrimanately assuming better yield especially in potato. After all like Pb, Cd, Cr it is also a heavy metals. So why not it will be toxic to the crop if it is loaded in soil beyond some limit ?
