I completed my Ph.D research at Vidyasagar University on governmental land acquisition for industries more than a decade ago.I chose the problem quite accidentally.

My graduate students took me to the field and then I got thoroughly immersed in the problem.I could not imagine that the problem chosen by me would become so much important locally and globally within a few years.Many important researches have been done on the problem during these years.Huge amount of information and quite a good theoretical insights have developed. But more and more bad policies are being adopted by the governments all over the world! Have we progressed towards better and humane planning for the future?

  • I believe, our progress in this regard in minimum.Still there is no international concern or protocol on preventing the adverse effects of land grab on large section of humanity.The poor are getting more poor.
  • On the other hand,our progress towards our journeys in the space is spectacular but the distance between the displaced and the governments and corporates has increased.

Hence, the question:'Is there any value in doing scientific research on land grab?'
