Would you be willing to share how you controlled that spacing and yow you make sure that tunneling is what dominates the situation?

Also, how do you keep that specimen? Is there no danger of ripening processes due to surface diffusion?

ON re-reading your question I wonder what kind of tunneling processes you may want to distinguish? As far as electrical transport is concerned, is there anything else but electrons to tunnel?

@ Kai faith, The spacing between gold nano particles is 0.5 nm. I would like to know more about theoretically, experimentally it is possible to control with electron beam lithography and we can distinguish it.
