We have a study that considers the moderating role of board policies and CEO duality in the relationship between board independence/gender diversity and financial stability.
I am wondering about the type of direct test on the moderating effect. We need to perform direct tests on the difference in such relationships between these various settings.

Can you explain what your mean with "direct test"? If you are in the realm of the linear model/multiple regression (I assume all assumptions are met), the moderation could simply be tested by including the interaction/product term into the regression equation. In principle it is as simple as that. But there are a lot of caveats and pitfalls that you may encounter. Therefore, I suggest to consult a local statistician an/or to use at least a textbook, for example Hayes, A. (2018). Introduction to Mediation, Moderation, and Conditional Process Analysis (2nd ed.). Even if you do not use SAS or SPSS, it is very helpful to understand the whole concept. There are online ressources which translate it to R if needed.
i would strongly suggest multiple regression. is this a time series data?
