I am making the following molecule Fe3O4@SiO2@APTMS- Biotin and after FT-IR it is very hard to prove the presence of Biotin as the main Biotin peak is overlapped by Si-O. Did anyone meet the same problem? And how to overcome this problem?
I am not working with any of these compounds, but I encountered the problem of peaks overlapping. Possible (general) solutions:
- try to get a sample without SiO2, if possible, then you may get the Biotin peaks.
- most likely, you should address a different, complementary method for structural characterization (XRD, Raman, XPS, NMR, ...)
- more complicated: you may find a way to alter the structure of SIO2 (thermally, chemically, ...). Changes in the structure will affect the position/shape of peaks.
Farzad Hosseini Thanks for the reply. The peak at 1710 cm-1 for some reasons is relativly weak and i was thinking that i can see the biotin ureido ring peak at 1240-1260 cm-1, but it is overalapping with Si-O-Si and Si-O-C peak which is at 900-1280 cm-1.
