The word "smart" is related to innovation, artificial intelligence, remote access to smart computerized systems, the Internet of Things, cloud computing, data processing and access to equipment for buildings, factories, etc. from mobile devices equipped with access to the Internet and other technologies of the current technological revolution known as Industry 4.0.

For me the term 'Smart' when applied to the context of the 4th Industrial Revolution is more than just technological Systems. In his book where he coined the term 4th IR Charlies Schwab highlighted that "technology leverages the pervasive power of digitization and information technology by the integration of physical, technological and biological systems." From my experience if smart is not taken to include these bio-physical systems and indeed social systems of place, any 4IR intervention will struggle to succeed. This is the argument that Igor Calzada and I made in our paper on smart city digitization.
Artificial Intelligence have boosted the Automation systems making it way smarter than it was before .

I support your argument, "Smart" is an over used term which has restrictions. Igor Calzada I am interested to hear about the various Bridging European Urban Transformations workshops. I am sure the collective group could help refine the term "Smart Cities".
