Several soybean cultivars were mutagenized to produce many lines of M0, M1, M2 etc. In order to determine the genetic basis of an observed phenotype, an M0 level mutant was hybridized with its original parental cultivar to generate a mapping population. The mutation responsible for the observed phenotype has now been determined. Among the many mutants some share a similar trait features as the mutant used in the mapping experiment. What systematic experiment can be employed to identify other mutants which share a common ancestry with the mutant used in the mapping experiment?
