In general the weight age of research in PhD is very high as compared to the course in any institute of the world, though a good course work can be helpful in doing a quality research. What I want ask in this question is about the contributions of the student and his/her supervisor in the research work, keeping in view the inculcation of the ability to carry out independent research by the student and a good direction provided by the supervisor. In some cases, where the supervisors are feeding too much to their students, they do not develop a sense of research. In contradiction, when the supervisors completely leave there students alone, they get stuck in there research work, and in some cases leave there PhDs
