Are there Arduino sensors that can be used to detect the presence of plastic materials? Our proposed study is an arduino based plastic detection from the water surface. We plan to use infrared sensors but we think it will also detect other materials aside from plastics. Also, we plan to use the sensors in different kinds of water eg. murky water and clear water.

Capacitive sensors are capable of detecting plastic and you can check the IDEC plastic sensor.
