I want to digitize Barton ten standard curve of roughness profile, but I am getting some problem to consider y-axis. What scale I have to consider along vertical axis for digitizing purpose.
I'll suggest to consider that standard Barton profiles are 10 cm long, so the y axis scale should be taken in cm too.
Hemant, I digitised the left-hand Figure 8 from Barton (2008) - Shear Strength of Rockfill, Interfaces and Rock Joints, and their Points of Contact in Rock Dump Design using QGIS. I used a 1:1 scale assuming the vertical scale was equal to the horizontal scale.
Due to limited time to further investigate, I probably would've liked to look at some of the angles of deflection along the profiles to match to the JRC range listed on the right-hand side. Of course, the further questions include:
- Modelling the vertical displacement as horizontal displacement occurs,
- Other posts suggest peak displacement occurs within the first 10mm but may extend to 30-40mm before residual conditions are met,
- What other assumptions, regarding normal force, JCS are applicable here, and
- How do you represent a 3D surface with a 2D Line (distilling into a 1D angle).
