Faten Alabasi - Since you are using survey and observation as research methods in your study. It seems that you are using mixed methods research by combining at least one qualitative and one quantitative research component. Observation in qualitative research “is one of the oldest and most fundamental research methods approaches. In qualitative research, only a sample (that is, a subset) of a population is selected for any given study. The most common sampling strategies used in qualitative research are purpose sampling, quota sampling, and snowball sampling. Obtain a general sense of information by reading all the data and to reflect on its overall meaning and the general ideas are participants saying, the tone of the ideas and your own interpretations.
Faten Alabasi if all students will answer the survey, then it is not a sample, it is analysis at population level ("a census"). However, if the students and teachers are a sample of population (let's say: the schools in the district) then it depends how did you choose those specific teachers and students: if it was just for convenience, then is a convenience non-probabilistic sample. If you choose those students teacher probabilistically from a population, then it depends on the sample design (stratified, clusterized, complex, etc).
That is a good topic that to consider many aspect: class, age, habit, etc.
Depending on the number of students in your population you can either make a survey or work with a sample. In the case of a sample, make to select according to the possible aspects that can influence your data, or do it randomly, better with a table of random numbers
you are conducting a census and not a survey as you have used the classroom only. The context is limited to the classroom. In this case every student will provide an answer. Its quantitative and every student is accounted. However if you choose to use the school the context change and you would be surveying.
Observations are the most practical yet the oldest methods in qualitative research. And the students are a set of study you are focusing on. They influence your data and may provide the type of outcome you are looking for. Your sampling here would be a census and as context change it may become a sample.
I will allow all the pooulation to answer a survey but fir the sampling i will use random sampling for example, if I need 50 respondents or sample population, and there are 250 population, i will put every 50 names in a bowl and pick 10. I repeat this thus 5 times to complete the 50 samples i need.
Seems to be use of convenient sampling .For observations, sum up the findings qualitatively and present as most common.
