i'm a novice researcher and i m having a problem analyzing an article
i do understand the methodology used and results but i can't figure out the epistemological position or the reasoning adopted

There isn't a great deal of information about how the knowledge within the cases was obtained in order to inform the interpretations generated, but it appears that they were ready famiar with the theory they used before they selected their case studies, so they aren't using induction or deduction, so it's a form of abduction. The ontology seems to be realist, although not naive realist, but I don't see any information to determine it as critical realist, and the epistemology is functionalist rather than hard positivist.
