I am writing a systematic review where I will be including RCT and also randomized trials without the control group. Which risk of bias will be best to use for both please?
Gracie Pretty It is a standard to use the Version 2 of the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool for randomized trials (RoB 2). And, it is expected by PRISMA reporting also.
There seems to be a misconception regarding control in RCT. By definition, every randomized trial has a control group; we randomize participants so the groups are comparable regarding their baseline. Yes, in some trials, we randomize participants to two or more active treatments, and there is no placebo, waitlist, or treatment as usual group. In these cases, there is still a control group, but it is an active one. So you should not divide the included studies into "RCTs" and randomized trials with no control.
And as all are RCTs, as Vignesh mentioned, you can use the RoB-2; it is recommended by Cochrane collaboration.
