My research topic is "Evaluation of the effectiveness of livelihood initiatives as an incentive for conserving watersheds in Malawi: A case of Shire River Basin".
The background of my research is that, there was a project that was implemented on catchment management for five years. This project was completed in 2018. End of evaluation report was done in 2019. In this project, communities were provided with livelihood activities so that they reduce their overdependent on natural resources which were degrading the catchment areas causing sedimentation in the river which was affecting hydropower generation downstream and floods. So communities were engaged in soil and water conservation activities in order to conserve the watershed for sustainable development.
My research is mostly based on the completion report, to see if the livelihood activities are sustainable, six years later after the project was completed. To achieve this, I have three objectives to evaluate on which I have indicated in the research question which I need proper methodology to achieve.
Mixed methods should be used in the research. Interview methods to be used for collection of data from beneficiaries and stakeholders of the project. Structured questionears to be used at the time of data collection. Elite interview also will be strengthen the research work. As sampling method random sampling (depends on the sample size) should be applicable.
You interview participants using Likert scale surveys then analyse with Chi square tests :)
