A paper on the state of urban hydrologic modeling recently came out by Elga, Jan, and Okke. You can find it at http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.jhydrol.2015.06.028.
In the paper the authors describe how their experience in going through many urban hydrologic studies suggest that there is more input data for urban hydrologic models that could be gleaned from remote sensing (RS) information. What experience do you have with this? What sources have you used? What cautions would you give?
I have briefly looked at remotely sensed land use/development in connection with recreational/potable reservoir water quality.

There are some major possibilities in linking factors like land use change, change in urban vegetation, impervious surfaces etc. to urban stormwater models, and I think remote sensing is the logical answer for obtaining information about those factors.

Carly, thank you for that useful response. I am reading through your poster and will let you know if I have any followup questions on how I can duplicate or augment what you have done for our area. I see that you are in Utah. I am also interested in trying to better understand how to view, model, assess, analyze water quality information in arid and semi-arid climates. If you have any thoughts on this, please share them.
I have recently followed a course on satellite technology and it seems to me that there is a lot that this technology can do for urban hydrology. It can identify porous and non porous surfaces as already noted and it can identify hills and hollows where flooding is likely.It can identify traffic in real time and allow traffic be redirected to avoid flooded areas. These data are available so you just have to find where data for your area is held.
