I have been trying to work with ESGF cordex files. I try to project them but I am unsuccessful in ArcMAP, they do project in QGIS but then they seem to be projecting incorrectly.
The Interpolated Cordex Files on the NA-CORDEX website appear to be projecting properly but the same can't be said for the raw nc files.
Am I missing something? Do these files need to be processed before opening in a GIS software ?
The NA-CORDEX website states that the files are in LCC but which LCC , NA-LCC ??
It would be really helpful if someone could guide me regarding this.
I think prior to projecting you have to declare the coordinate system it is based on. You may be able to look at the Metadata to figure that out.
There is no information about the coordinate system for the ESGF files, the NA-Cordex do have LCC(Lambert Conformal Conic) mentioned but which LCC ?
I am novice on this topic so therefore its all a bit confusing.
For details of LCC you can go to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lambert_conformal_conic_projection Choose the zone that you are intersted in and declare that as the coordinate system in ArcMAP. Hope it works
Tried that, I tried projecting to North American LCC. Thanks nonetheless.
Let me suggest one last thing. Create a blank ArcMap document. Go to the Data Frame, then change the coordinate system to North American LCC. Then bring in the shapefile containing the data and see what happens.
