I am planning to use pure (>%99.9) tungsten powder to synthesize tungsten based alloys. I got price quotes from Alfa Aesar and Chempur. The products are almost the same but there is big difference between the price quotes, and Chempur's price is much lower. I can't decide between them.
One key factor in your experiment should be the powder size distribution and/or ( at least !) average size of it. Normally 99.9% is a little too much ( how about oxgen & nitrogen?) for metallurgical experiments.. Anyway.. It is possible to find relatively low cost powders for quantities above 25 kg, close to minimum size of commercial lots for PM trials testing, but I suppose this is not your case. I frequently buy powders for experiments of at least 25 kg lots as they cost ( nearly ) the same (in total) as 500 g or 1000 g.
So ( if I might suggest..) go for the cheaper one.. as long it's a material you can reorder with consistency,,

For research purpose, better to use purest one while many things are strongly related to the reactants purity i.e., yield, reaction mechanism.

What are the purity requirements of your tungsten alloys? >99.9% of tungsten powders is standard purity, good for most of applications. Higher purity tungsten powders are for special requirements, such W alloy sputtering targets >99.9995%.
The main impurity is supposed to be Oxygen
