I'm working on a global project in which I'd like to integrate different predicted environmental variables. I'm trying to get something for future land biomass (or GPP/NPP) according to RCP8.5. I've found data on the CMIP5 data portal, but before considering any of those, I'm wondering if any of you could advise something, ideally published.

The question is quite complex, but if you want to estimate the crop production, in terms of Above Ground Biomass (AGB), you have to well define your aim and the scale of approach that you want use. The global scale is really big to produce useful information for land planning and/or face global problems as food security or CC.
If you want to say something at applicative scale, you have to "fight" with the quality and reliability of your spatial information driving the crop responses (climate and soil dataset). Generally these are not always able to support applicative approaches.
In order to estimate the AGB you can base your analysis on the relations between crop responses and solar radiation (RUE, TUE) or water transpiration (WP), in some models you can use both (e.g. CropSyst model).
However, before to start to evaluate a crop response, you have to evaluate if in your study area, the thermal requirement of the analyzed crop (or hybrid) is satisfied.

In the contrary, I'm looking for existing global scale estimation for current and future periods, based on RCP 8.5 and in raster format. Finding current estimations of NPP at a global scale is not hard, but it's more difficult for the future. As I mentioned, different outputs from the CMIP5 initiative are available but very numerous, so it's not easy to pick one and I'm hoping someone can advise a dataset that has been part of a publication.
Remote sensing has been able to give us a good idea about GPP, but NPP is a tougher nut to crack. Given all the different ecosystems and forms of photosynthesis such as C3, C4, CAM, and hybrids... and the fact that the ratio of these plant species change over time in a community... it seems such a prediction would be a serious stab in the dark.
