We find in Eucalyptus plantations that certain species recover better from wind (especially at a young age) than others. Specifically some hybrids, e.g. GxU tends to be more prone to crooked stems after wind exposure in the growing years than e.g. pure E. grandis.
Yes there's wind and reaction/tension wood, but which features differentiates these species?

I think that event can be associated with tension wood and growth stress level into the stem. These phenomena can modify the chemical and physical properties of the wood. The microfibular angle may be associated with the question of the crooked/breaking in younger tree too.

Thank you for your comment. Would you suggest then perhaps that, in order to select for trees that has better ability to recover after storms, we look at microfibril angle as a selection criteria? I Know that, especially in pines, the growing conditions play a large role in MFA, and this isn't always best to use in the tree breeding process. On Eucalyptus I'm not sure.
