Hubble’s observed linear relationship between galaxy velocity and distance is explained by the expansion of space, as described by General Relativity. The Friedmann–Lemaître–Robertson–Walker (FLRW) metric shows that in a homogeneous, isotropic universe, space itself expands—causing galaxies to recede from each other with velocity proportional to distance: v = H₀ × d.

This is not motion through space (as Galileo might describe) but expansion of space itself a relativistic, not classical, effect. Hubble’s 1929 paper was empirical; the theoretical basis came from cosmological solutions to Einstein’s equations.

Robert Shour : No real physics explains the Hubble relationship! Because it is not a scientific proposition but a theological and ruling mythology! In a class society, the ruling ideas (in the form of mythology) of any epoch are the ideas of the corresponding ruling class. Hubble relationship, now renamed as “Hubble- Lemaître” relationship is such a myth. Since that time, the Vatican has taken over the leadership in dealing with official astrophysics and cosmology, used by Monopoly Capitalism as its ruling idea. The radicals around, such as F. Hoyle, V. Ambartsuminan and this speaker (to mention a few) were not even invited. The conference was confined completely to Big Bang cosmology and its proponents. What is more, Edwin Hubble, in whose name this fraud is being perpetrated never accepted the idea of cosmic expansion, until his death. In the words of Hubble, "… if redshift are not primarily due to velocity shift … there is no evidence of expansion, no trace of curvature … and we find ourselves in the presence of one of the principles of nature that is still unknown to us today … whereas, if redshifts are velocity shifts which measure the rate of expansion, the expanding models are definitely inconsistent with the observations that have been made … expanding models are a forced interpretation of the observational results." 4. A Dialectical Alternative: No Expansion, No Big Bang

The proportionality v∝d can be explained—without expanding space or a primordial singularity—by a causal, dialectical physics rooted in the insights of Kepler, Leibniz, and Hegel.

Let us abandon the cosmic mythology of official cosmology—the black holes, the dark matter, the inflation fields. These are not science. They are ruling ideas of a decaying capitalist order that fears real change, real development, real revolution.

Why not linear relations have abstract limits; the fundamental relations: time, chance, vector, mass and energy are interactive and relative, hence non-linear? Logicians can model maths and science to imagine any cosmos they want, but the foundations of its categories alludes them.

In a geometrical theory of gravity, we say that gravitational sources like the sun, or the earth, or an atom, have positive massergery, which curves spacetime: We define two main classes of curvature: positive and negative.

• With positive curvature, a region enclosed by a given perimeter contains more space than expected.
• With negative curvature, a region enclosed by a perimeter contains less space than expected.
• If the region contain exactly the amount of interior space that we'd calculate from the perimeter geometry, using high-school Euclidean geometry, we normally consider it flat.
• Pseudo-Euclidean curvature, or quasi-Euclidean curvature is a hybrid geometry containing both negatively- and positively- curved elements, which cancel out at larger scales. An example of pseudo-Euclidean geometry is a supermarket cardboard eggbox, which is very curvy at the scale of an egg, but manages to sit flat on a flat tabletop.

In a geometrical theory of gravity, we say that all positive masses have associated positive curvature. The extra space associated with a massed particle corresponds to the extra surface in a gravity-well diagram, which in turn corresponds to the additional time that it takes for a lightsignal to cross a region if the lightpath intersects a stronger gravitational field (Shapiro time-delay).

In a geometrical description of gravity, the rules of curvature say that if a region contains only sources of positive curvature, the region itself must be positively curved, if matter is roughty uniformly distributed, the larger the region we look at, the more total curvature there is, So there's a distance-dependent curvature, and gravitational curvature is cumulative. Eventually, for any given mass-density, if you look at a large enough region, it should curve around on itself to give a hypersphere.

So the greater distance a lightbeam travels, on average, the greater the curvature redshift.

If we start with a hyperspherical universe, and want to draw in lines perpendicular to the "space-surface" to represent the time axis/es, the simplest way is to draw in a set of radial lines. We then say that the universe is either expanding or contracting. If we mark a point on the hypersphere that represents our own position, and introduce a flat coordinate space tangent to that point, the projection of the nearby region of curved surface onto the sphere, has a density that increases with distance, because the angle between the curved surface and the plane increases with distance. Treated literally, the plane seems to show a gravitational field increasing in density with distance, hence a gravitational redshift that increases with distance.

Since distant coordinates represent regions further back in time, an increase in density as we go back in time corresponds to an expanding universe.

So with the earlier "radial lines" diagram, we can associate "forward time" with "the direction of time in which the universe seems to be expanding"

Expansion means that things are moving further away from each other, which implies a recession redshift, and when the radial timelines point away form each other, divergent worldlines also suggest an implicit recession velocity.

So depending on how we choose to define it, the Hubble redshift is either a measure of cumulative curvature, a gravitational redshift, an expansion redshift, or a recession redshift.

Einstein's system has some geometrical inconsistencies that prevent all these explanations from being considered exactly equivalent, but that's because it's a bad theory that can't cope with a Hubble universe. If all you want is general hand-wavy reasons for Hubble redshift, then all of these arguments would seem to be reasonable.

What is even more absurd about the “Hubble- Lemaître” relation is that in some cases the measured redshift is cooked-up to conform to theories. For example, there are galaxies with redshift so high that their recession velocity would be more than the velocity of light or would mean they are far beyond the 13.8 billion light years away - the limit set by the Big Bang creation! In such cases the redshifts are adjusted and recalculated to conform to SR and GR, to make them Kosher!!

Umm ... in both SR-based and Newton-based theory, as the recession velocity increases to the speed of light, the visible frequency drops to zero. So it would be difficult for a body to be seen with a recession redshift amounting to it receding at MORE than the speed of light, because that would mean an observed frequency of less then zero ... which wouldn't be directly observable (horizon). Negative frequencies imply that the light is moving away from you.

SR and NM both map all possible directly-observable recession redshift frequencies to a recession velocity somewhere between v and c.

NM: E'/E = (c-v)/c

SR: E'/E = SQRT[ (c-v) / (c+v) ]

Umm ... quasars can be observed only at radio/microwave frequencies and i.e., at very high redshifts. Such enormous red shifts of the quasars based on the Hubble relation impose impossible non-relativistic recess velocity of more than the speed of light. The observed quasar redshifts correspond to a speed range of .15 c to 0.91 c. Using a Hubble constant of 55 km/s per megaparsec to these redshifts, it can be shown that they are between 600 million and 29.36 billion light-years away (in terms of comoving distance. There are at least two types of "law" in physics: "Laws" that are assumed to be fundamental rules of the universe (e.g. laws of geometry), and other "messier" laws which are not much more than ways of summarising what data seems to do when you chart it.

Hubble's observation was empirical, and pretty rough. That's often the case with "world's first" results, they are usually slightly unreliable because the experimenter is exploring regions that have never before been properly analysed. They become more convincing after repeated replication and reanalysis.

If you think that Hubble redshifts can be correctly described according to principles, and theory, then they really need to be tentatively redescribed using some form of orderly Doppler law. I've provided you with the Doppler recession redshift relationships for both Newtonian theory and special relativity. Both relationships assign a velocity less than c to any visible redshift value, as do all intermediate relativistic relationships.

So from a theoretical point of view, there is no mainstream relativistic shift formula that lets you look at the redshift of a receding star and say "Theory says that that star is receding faster than light".

If you want to criticise an empirical law derived by experiment, then that's fine. But criticising an empirically derived relationship isn't then a criticism of a theory. Unless the empirically-constructed law used theory-specific assumptions in its derivation, and gives appreciably different results with different theoretical assumptions.

Actually, they're not. Modern GR was butchered to try to pretend that it predicted the Hubble redshift, when it didn't.

I suggest that you ask yourself why you believe that Hubble shift conforms to SR-GR1916. Because everyone says so? Because Einstein said so? The math, geometry, logic and contemporary history all say otherwise. If you believe the usual narrative of success, then you got conned.

Truth is, Einstein hated the idea of what we now know as Hubble redshifts. Hated, hated, hated them. His "artistic" vision of a universe was infinite, and identical in forward and backward time. The equations of his special theory were identical in forward and backward time. The Schwarzschild solution's gravitational shifts were identical in forward and backward time. If there was a distance-dependent redshift, then that became a distance-dependent blueshift in reversed time, reality was time-asymmetrical, and the structural basis of everything he'd worked on in classical physics for his entire career was wrong.

Lemaitre tried really hard to see Einstein to try to get his opinion, eventually catching his outdoors, and Einstein's response seems to have been to tell him brusquely that his physics was abominable, and to walk off.

Here's the problem that nobody talks about.

SR 's Doppler equation is time-symmetrical:

E'/E = SQRT[ (c-v) / (c+v) ]

The equations "flips" when we switch the sign of the velocity, from recession to approach. That means that if we multiply successive recession redshifts and approach blueshifts, both at +-v, they cancel perfectly.

We can derive the GR1916 gravitational shift formula from the SR shift formula, by allowing a test body to fall across a gravitational differential and then emitting light at the end of the journey instead of the beginning. If the two signals arrive with the same energy, the gravitational shift is calculable as a Doppler shift. So the Schwarzschild solution to GR1916, based on SR, again gives perfect shift cancellation.

• Consequently, under GR1916, a signal that rides into and out of a gravity-well returns to its original height with precisely the same energy that it started with. If it rides a switchback of successive gravitational hills and valleys, it still returns to its original height with the original energy. The process is lossless.
• But according to curved spacetime theory, gravitational shifts need to be cumulative. A signal crossing cosmologically-significant distances, riding into and out of gravity-wells, has a cumulative redshift roughly proportional to the distance travelled. And since this cumulative curvature warps space overall, even if the signal avoids all the lumps and bumps, it still ends up with a distance-dependent curvature redshift.

And that's what Hubble shift is.

Unfortunately for Einstein, if there's a Hubble shift, it means that a signal passing through a gravity-well doesn't return to its original height with the same energy: it loses energy. This means that the Schwarzschild solution is wrong, and the SR Doppler relationship that it complies with is also wrong.

Hubble shift destroys both Einstein's special and general theories. And THAT's why he hated the thing.

The type of cosmology actually generated by Einstein's 1916 system is pseudo-Euclidean. It's "effectively flat" and infinite. However, after publication, Einstein realised that his system didn't obey the general principle of relativity (oops!). He'd hoped to come up with a set of boundary conditions after publication that would make it all work. And there didn't seem to be any valid solution. So in 1917, he arbitrarily changed the cosmology to "hyperspherical", to get rid of the boundary conditions. But in a hysperspherical universe, we had cumulative gravitational redshifts making the SR and GR1916 equations wrong. In order to get rid of the cumulative redshift he invented his original Cosmological Constant, Lambda, whose sole purpose was to cancel out the cumulative effects of gravity, and allow the SR-GR1916 equations to be correct within the new hyperspherical context.

Snag is, that's illegal. You can't declare the universe to be hyperspherical, and then invent a repulsive effect to eliminate all the side-effects of hypersphericality! In geometrical physics, we aren't allowed to choose a geometry but reject all the physical-geometrical consequences of that geometry. We don;t get to "cherry-pick".

So Einstein's 1917 theory gave us an arbitrary hyperspherical universe, and used Lambda to explain why there was no such thing a cosmological redshift. And then in (1929?), Hubble went and verified the existence of the damned thing that Einstein had carefully explained didn't exist.

Einstein eventually had to admit that the Hubble result was probably correct, and that Lambda was the "biggest blunder" of his career. By the 1940s, everyone was setting Lambda=0 and agreeing that the Hubble redshift was real. Einstein took to claiming the Hubble redshift as evidence for the correctness of his theory (!!!), saying that this had been shown by Friedmann. Actually Friedmann had presented all sorts of different hypothetical cosmologies based on Einstein's equations, expanding, contracting, constant ... but by this time Friedmann was dead, and couldn't complain about Einstein misrepresenting his work.

Most people believed Einstein when he said that Hubble shift supported his theory's correctness.

What they may not have noticed was that Lambda cancelled out Hubble shift and had been required to stop Einstein's theory self-destructing. Without Lambda, the old problems resurfaced, and we again had to accept that the Schwarzschild solution was wrong, the SR shift equations were wrong, and Einstein's whole approach from 1913 through the 1940s, of trying to base a general theory on SR, was wrong and impossible to implement.

When dissidents are sure that Einstein's theories are wrong, and decide that Hubble shift is part of his system, and therefore also must be wrong, they've been made fools of by Einstein. They've been conned into attacking the very experimental data that, if analysed properly, shows that Einstein's basic SR equations can't be right. In the confusion of the battlefield, and amidst the fog of war, they've been tricked into shooting in the wrong direction, and attacking the very structures that would let them defeat their enemy.

Just remember, Einstein was an expert at misdirection. The more obvious he makes something seem ("Obviously, Hubble shift is a consequence of the theory, as shown by Friedmann"), the more likely it is to be untrue.

Eric you are saying more or less the same what I am saying about Einstein! What is more, Einstein was even deceptive to hide a mathematical fallacy, by using alphabetical expression, instead of numerical ones, like for example m = m0 x gamma, where m0, the “rest-mass” of a photon is zero! If we calculate Hubble recession redshifts using the SR shift equations, we get the result that a cosmological horizon must be absolute. But cosmological horizons have to be relative. So cosmological recession shifts must be non-SR.

And THAT's why the GR community say that these can't be treated as simple recession-velocity shifts. Because they are non-SR, and if we could treat them as recession redshifts, we'd have a geometrical disproof of special relativity.

So, since the Hubble redshift amounts to a signal leaving a patch of dense earlier universe and finishing in a less-dense region "here-and-now", we can calculate the redshift as a gravitational shift, using just the simple density differential along the path, yes?

Except that this doesn't work either. GR1916's gravitational redshifts are calculated using SR-compatible equations (Schwarzschild). So they again make cosmological horizons absolute, and require that the cosmological recession shift is governed by the SR relationships.

So we have to make a second exception. We now have four different shift effects using two shift formulas. Recession (SR), GR1916 gravitational (SR), cosmological-recession (NM), and cosmological-gravitational (NM).

... and this combination doesn't work as geometry. A geometrical theory has to be able to take a density-differential along the signal path and use that alone to calculate the shift without caring why the differential happens. Geometrical physics takes geometrical inputs and puts out a deterministic geometrical output. It doesn't allow the same input curvature to generate two different results depending on why the curvature exists.

Also, if the shape of spacetime away from the signal path changes the results along the signal path, then we've just violated the principle of local physics, and wrecked classical physics.

Almost nothing to do with the conjunction of Hubble cosmology with Einstein's theory of gravity actually works. Pretty much everything clashes and requires a human manual override.

In everyday language, if we were talking about any other theory, we'd say that Hubble cosmology disproves it. And that's why Einstein was so reluctant to accept a Hubble universe: he knew that it destroyed the math not only of his general theory, but of the 1905 special theory whose relationships GR1916/1917 had adopted. Hubble cosmology destroyed the basis and basic equations of motion of both his classical models of physics.

Einstein couldn't even get his general theory to make geometrical sense before Hubble shift came long. When it arrived, it just added a further level of geometrical incoherence. And then we found that it also didn't work with the PoE, with the general principle of relativity, or with quantum mechanics.

It's arguably the biggest failure of any "successful" scientific theory of all time.

Apparently, what was written down as "the Einstein equations" were too vague to say whether the universe was expanding, contracting or static. Friedmann worked on all three options. The choice of model then depended not on the equations but on the auxiliary assumptions that one chose to make in order to select a given solution. Einstein's own gravitational shift equations and the Schwarzschild solution demanded a static pseudoeuclidean universe, and after 1917, Einstein insisted that the universe was spatially curved but static over time (deSitter characterised the revised post-1917 Einstein universe as "cylindrical").

This then turned out to be wrong. But Einstein still took the credit for his theory "predicting" the right answer.

The theoretical basis of this entire subject is garbage.

It's crooked, bent, fudged, fiddled, made-up, lied-about, and basically scientifically fraudulent. It's wrong to an extent that we don't have words to describe just how wrong it is, because up until this theory, we never had need of such words.

It's even beyond a "Donald Trump" level of wrongness.

This relation is not derived from the special-relativistic Doppler formula or the Schwarzschild gravitational formula, but directly from the geometry of the expanding universe.

Of course, there are many different ways to interpret the redshift (as accumulated Doppler shifts, as a stretching of wavelengths, etc.), but mathematically they are all consistent with the GR framework. The empirical success of this model is reflected not only in Hubble’s original observations, but also in later precision tests (CMB anisotropies, BAO, supernovae).

No, not if "the GR framework" is defined as including the physics of special relativity.

In an observerspace projection of how you see large-scale reality, you see free-falling objects receding faster the further away they are, and also apparently redshifting, and also apparently inhabiting progressively more compacted regions of (past) space. Average worldline orientation tilts more away from you as a function of distance, and the relative alignment of space and time coordinates tip over.

Qualitatively, it looks as if the opposite side of the universe is a gigantic gravity-well whose effects we can see in all directions. So if we take a nearby collapsed star with a gravitational curvature horizon, we can apply a topological transform in which it "exchanges places" with the cosmological curvature horizon, with the collapsed star's surface surrounding us and pointing inwards, and the the cosmological horizon's curvature now surrounded and looking like a gravity-well.

Since this (in a geometrical theory) is just a geometrical remapping, the laws of physics ought to operate in the same way regardless of whether a curvature-source is on the inside looking out. or on the outside looking in.

In the cosmological curvature case, the redshift described as the result of a density variation along the signal path is non-SR, non-Schwarzshild, and non-GR1916, and the associated velocity recession-shift is non-SR. The cosmological horizon MUST be a relative rather tn an absolute horizon, so thanks to topology, we know that gravitational horizons must also be relative horizons too. If gravitational horizons are relative, then Hawking's 2014 explanation of how classical physics generates a counterpart of Hawking radiation kicks in, and we have a unified system of gravity, cosmology, inertial physics and QM.

So if we construct a general theory from scratch, post-Hubble, with the help of the additional information that Einstein didn't have in 1916, that the universe seems to be expanding, with a Hubble redshift and a probable hyperspherical spatial geometry, we get the automatic default result that Wheeler black holes don't exist, curvature horizons are relative, projective, and observer-dependent, special relativity's shift equations are wrong, and that we have to replace Minkwoski spacetime with a relativstic acoustic metric.

Einstein knew this.

The point of his 1917 "Lambda" was to cancel out the effects of long-range curvature to explain why there was no such thing as long-distance cumulative curvature, and turn cumulative-curvature large-scale physics into something pseudo-Euclidean and time-symmetrical. Which was required for the Schwarzshild solution and SR to be correct.

If Hubble redshift is real, the foundational, architectural rules that lay behind everything that Einstein did in classical physics, and which led to SR and GR1916, are wrong.
