I am a novice at geology and am supposed to create geological structures for boreholes in my study area. What software can I use and how to I go about creating the structures?
I do not understand what you mean by creating geological structures. But if you mean plotting or doing basic interpretations, then Stereonet 9 (http://www.geo.cornell.edu/geology/faculty/RWA/programs/stereonet.html) or Geoplot may be a good start for you. You can also go to https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/open-source-software-structural-geology-analysis-debanjan-guha-roy where you will see a collection of software for various purposes in structural geology. But I will not hide to you that you will need to read more on structures to know how to properly interpret and plot them on a map.
You can download a trial version of this software online. Just type 'Strater 2 trial version" on google then it will navigate you there where you will get to download it. Just let me know if you do manage to do it,
I managed to install starter 3 and was able to create borehole logs and the surface map, however am struggling to create a cross section for my boreholes. I am following the tutorial under the starter software help function, but for some reasons the borehole information is not showing in the cross section view. Any idea what am doing wrong?
