Money is the first thing that comes to mind when we talk about work motivation, but, as we know, there are some other factors having a great impact on what we do and how we do it.
What are these factors? What TWO factors do you think are more important than money in motivating us at work?
Two factors that motivate people to work aside or more than money:
1. Happiness at work
2. Recognition of work

Having a purpose and knowing your value and identity within that purpose is more motivating that money.
Loving relationships within family contexts or in professional pedagogical contexts are more valuable that gold!
1) feeling appreciated by co-workers and supervisor
2) feeling that your job utilizes your strengths

I just would like to learn what comes just after money when talking about motivation. WE know that monetary rewards may not last long and tasks we are dealing may lose their appeal in time if money is the only incentive. That's why I wonder what triggers motivation and what the top motivators are.
For me, 1) interesting tasks and 2) the outcome of a task
Of course appraisal from others is important but I like to do things for their own reward ..
Yes Romer, happiness at work... a sense of belonging... it is so important.
And a plus if your work is recognized. You feel that you are not working in vain.
Academic literature shows that different organizations have different culture that motivates employees. A motivation questionnaire developed based on the Causality Orientation Scale can give you the possible dimensions of motivation.

I'm interested in Self-Determination Theory and I find the website very useful, sharing publications and scales.
I agree that different organization have different culture, just like the culture in different countries. I think here we can talk about global, institutional, situational, personal domains with regard to motivational orientations.
