Menace of brobanche (broomrape) can be reduced by different practices including manual weeding, crop rotation, herpicide application and soil solarization. But among all crop rotation and soil solarization seems to be more effective in case of rapseed.
Broome rape weed can be effectively controlled by two spray of glyphosate herbicide i.e. 25 g /ha at 25 days after sowing and 50 g/ha at 50 days after sowing of rapeseed and mustard crop provided the crop does not experience any moisture stress at the time of spray. Variety specific susceptibility may be there. So first test on small area. Crop rotation and soil soil solarization are also effective against this weed. Hand pulling/removal of left over emerging shoots before flowering to reduce weed seed bank in the soil. Use higher seed rate with increased N fertilizer dose for enhancing crop vigour.
