I am currently working on a project under an industry where I have to work on the vibration and noise of their long conveyor belt (17 km). If you have studied Vibration and Noise control, I would be glad to hear your thoughts about it.
In terms of vibration control, foundation is very important. So at first, you need to make sure that your conveyor has a good foundation. It should be noted that just by controlling vibration, you can reduce noise level, dramatically!
But for controlling the noise level, as you know, first measure is related to technology. higher technology of devices result in lower noise level. However, if you can't change technology, you can apply next measures such as noise barriers (metal walls) and so on.
If possible add one or two idlers. It may work for you. Check the quality of belt, wear and tear, shelf life, bonding and joints. Also ensure structural integrity of equipment and foundations.
Anamul, 17km! In one belt!?!.... transporting mine or quarry goods i presume?? Your approace will need to be then to make a noise survey of the whole of the installation and find out 1/ which parts of the installation are generating noise, 2/ why noise is a sensitive issue (habitation, noise sensitive installations) and then 3/ what mitigation measures can be applied. Likely there are multiple measures that need to be taken. Where is this installation, if you are able to say...? Jonathan
Jonathan David Binnington, yes 17 km in one belt. It's one of the longest in the world, used to carry limestone and it travels at 4 m/s speed. Noise is a sensitive issue there because of the habitation. This installation is somewhere in Asia.
